I bought this book as a companion to Harold Enlow's little book on "Eyes and Ears". Some of my work in duplicating some faces in the round or on a flat board has been pretty good, but none of them have been consistent. Carving a face has always been elusive for me, and I have spent weeks over several months on carving faces, and even with study sticks.I just seemed to be too dense to get it the way I could be proud of. People like my carvings, but that is because I typically paint them. I think that my continuing to work with this great little book, I will do several faces and then be able to give them a natural finish. I like that idea. I could then stand back and know that I will have the ability and the skills to consistently repeat getting a face that I will be satisfied with, thanks to Harold Enlow.
In the meantime I going back to my workshop to do some sharpening. Ahh, that at times, is also a challenge. When I get my sharpening right, whittling and carving is fun again. This book makes carving faces fun again. In the meantime, I am still working on getting my palm chisels constantly sharp ... Sigh!

I keep this on my workbench with Harold's other books as a reference for facial features. Clear step-by-step instructions in a small package. I wish he would do a wall chart so I could put the whole series in plain view but this works well for me.
