Carrie Simpson had been warned – the rough country of Colorado was no place for a gently reared Southern lady, Nevertheless, she was determined to make her own way as the new manager of a stage station, feeding weary travelers and hitching their horses, There was only one problem – the husband she said was on his way would never arrive, And Carrie knew it was only a matter of time before someone figured out her secret.

The one thing Lucas Barrow didn’t need was another distraction – and Carrie Simpson definitely fit in that category. With her smooth skin and creamy complexion, she didn’t belong out in the wilderness. And where was this elusive husband she claimed to have? If Carrie were his wife, he’d never let her out of his sight. And even though Luca knew it could never be, he Couldn’t help imagining what it would be like to make her his beautiful … Colorado Bride.

Colorado Bride edition by Leigh Greenwood Romance eBooks

She makes quite an impression when she gets off of the stagecoach and promptly fires one of the men who has been running the place. She and her husband are both in charge of the place though she arrives ahead of her husband. A little bit into the book it is revealed that the man she was supposed to marry died before it could actually happen. Which could be a problem for her as women don't run their own businesses in this period of history. At least not a business like this. And a woman on her own in the west has to deal with all kinds of things like Indians as well as ungentlemanly men. She proves herself to be quite capable of taking care of herself though as she does have some skills that make her a little more capable then other women. I really liked reading about the love story set in this era. Either some of the editing was fixed by the time I read it or the story was that good. I would get the book anyway or buy it in paperback form if it's available on Amazon as it really was among some of the best romances I have read since getting a Kindle.

Colorado Bride edition by Leigh Greenwood Romance eBooks Reviews

Colorado Bride was such a fun read. I love all of Leigh Greenwood's western romance stories. I would have normally given this particular title a five star rating. The reason I gave it four is that there were so many typos throughout the pages that sometimes it was hard to follow. In spite of that problem the story was exciting! Lucas and Carrie were truly a perfect match. I knew Jake and Katie's constant bickering would bring them together. The characters of Found and Sam were such a wonderful addition to the story that I found myself cheering for them both. Carrie is what I would have aspired to model myself after had I been living in the Old West! I recommend any books by this author!
Who is responsible for turning a very nice story into a spelling and grammer nightmare? I can't believe a writer would let something they worked and sweated over go to the public in such bad shape. A really good book...a really good story line.......and someone they trusted dropped the ball. I don't know how the system works, I'm just the reader, but I'd be interested to know how this happened.
I have read a few of Leigh Greenwood's books in the past year or two and find them very enjoyable. Unfortunately, it is very distracting when the editting is poor to non-existent. The majority of it was spelling, and it seemed like certain letter combinations were the cause of the errors. These would have been caught by a spell-checking program. There were also a good number of missing quotation marks throughout the book which made this reader have to stop and figure out if the character was actually speaking or just thinking to themselves. I'm sure this is a result of whatever OCR scanning software was used, but a quick read through should have caught many of them.
While I did enjoy the story itself, it did seem to drag on a bit in the second half. I got the feeling the author wanted Carrie to overcome all the bad elements Lucas had mentioned to illustrate her success as the station master on her own. I would recommend this book to others, but you might want to try and find a paper copy at your library instead of trying to decipher the e-book version.
I enjoyed the story. If it were possible to rate the story itself separately I would have rated this e-book five stars. However, for an award winning author, the version was sorely lacking in editing, and thus the deduction of one star in the rating. Normally when an e-book is this poorly edited, I just delete it and don't finish it. However, I did not in this case because the story line was so good and I wanted to find out how the e-book ended.

There were typos, wrong use of words and mixed up sentences throughout the book. Most of these could be figured out, but there were a few places that just didn't make sense. These places did not significantly distract from the story line. If you can put up with typos, etc. then this would be a good e-book to read. Most of the time I could put up with the mistakes, though there were other times they were extremely frustrating.
This book was very hard to read. For anyone that loves the King's English and good grammar, it is a nightmare. You can't even stay focused on the story line because you are upset with all the mistakes in it. COME ON, make a corrected version. There are also MANY sentences that should be labeled as paragraphs..they are SO long. You almost lose the train of thought in the sentence by the time you plunder through so many extended thoughts. Loved the main character..Carrie was a very independent, capable woman who held my attention. Wish I could have enjoyed the story without all the blunders. Unfortunately, I could not. It ruined the reading pleasure one usually gets from a decent story. In fact, I must add that the author rambled in so many places..chpater after chapter - page after page of ramblings about the same subject. BORING. I couldn't even finish the book. No more from this author will go into my library.
In all fairness I was going to average at 4, but I just couldn't do it. I prefer to rate by story merit vs. edit, yet this went way overboard. There are many reviews that I agree with, but all in all the editing was horrendous. It took me several hours longer to read this book because of that problem. Doesn't anyone read it first before release? I'm appalled. The storyline was terrific. Carrie's back story could have been stronger to establish why she left. It was there, of course, but was it really a motivator to venture into an unknown dangerous world for a women during the 1800's? I truly cared about the characters, but I would have liked to have seen more depth. Some of the mental meaderings went on more than necessary. The concept was inspiring, Susan B. Anthony meets Calamity Jane and Women's Rights in the 1800's.
BUT, PLEASE FIX THE COPY!!!
When done definitely read this story-it was enjoyable.
